What is voice therapy?
Strokes and brain injury can change the way your voice sounds by weakening the muscles needed to produce speech.
Signs of voice disorder include the following changes:
Volume: quiet, loud, or too much variation
Pitch: monotone or too much variation
Rate of speech: slow, fast, or variable
Breath support: running out of breath frequently, heavy breathing, more frequent breathing
Vocal quality: hoarse, breathy, strained, rough
Resonance: sounding like your voice is “coming out of your nose,” or your voice sounding as if your nose was congested
Articulation: speech sounding imprecise or slurred
Our therapy can help strengthen the weakened muscles that cause these changes and teach you strategies to improve the affected subsystems.
